Japan’s Asahi Seeking U.S. Site for ‘Super Dry’ Brand Brewery

TOKYO — Asahi Breweries Ltd. said today that it is looking for a suitable site for a brewery in the United States to produce its “Super Dry” brand.
Asahi indicated that it is no longer pursuing an original plan to build a plant in Denver in partnership with Adolph Coors Co. but is hoping to build its own plant in the United States.
“We have not dropped our desire to build our own factory in the United States by the end of 1992, and our mission is visiting the United States to search for a suitable site for the plant,” an Asahi spokesman said.
The project involves the construction of a plant with an annual production capacity of 1 million cases, each containing 20 regular-size bottles, for sale in the United States.
The plan calls for an investment of at least $667 million, the spokesman said.
