New York Doubles Fare on Staten Island Ferry

NEW YORK — Staten Island officials opposed it to the end, but Mayor David N. Dinkins on Thursday signed into law a 25-cent increase in the round-trip fare on the historic Staten Island ferry. The fare, which has been a quarter for 15 years, will go up to 50 cents beginning July 31.
