Italy edged Poland to win the gold medal in the men’s team foil event at the World Fencing Championships at Lyon, France.
The 8-7 victory was the first for an Italian team since the 1986 championships. Italy won despite missing Olympians Mauro Numa and Stefano Cerioni, who did not compete.
But newcomer Alexander Puccini, a finalist in the individual foil, won three of four team matches.
