Shooters bagged nearly 3,000 prairie dogs in a weekend contest near Nucla, Colo. Organizers of the event said protests from animal rights activists had attracted more gunners. The event brought an economic boost to the town, which has been devastated by range droughts and a bust in uranium mining. More than $7,000 in prizes was taken home by shooters.
