Curse Cure: Deborah Norville got a New York taxi driver fined for cursing at her during a December ride, she said in the July 30 issue of New York magazine. The co-host of NBC’s “Today” show said that when she tapped on the partition to tell Isidro Ortiz where to stop, he cursed her. When she wrote down his license number, he cursed more, she claimed, adding, “I was absolutely shaking when I got out of the car.” Ortiz, 31, was fined $100 by a city commission in April. He could not be reached for comment.
Cold Comfort: Marla Maples, romantically linked to developer Donald Trump, says his estranged wife, Ivana, is a cold woman who neglects her children. Ivana is “out every night in London and New York, going on dates . . . while Donald is home raising the children,” Maples said in Tuesday’s New York Daily News. But Mrs. Trump said through a spokeswoman: “I see my children every single day. Donald sees them once a week at most.”
Cold Heart: The federal government may go after imprisoned evangelist Jim Bakker’s minuscule prison salary because he hasn’t made any payment on the $501,025 he was fined for cheating his followers. But since Bakker makes only 11 cents an hour working as an orderly, he would be paying the debt for 2,100 years. “We pursue every legal way to collect,” said U.S. Attorney Tom Ashcraft. Bakker lawyer James Toms said: “Those folks are all heart.”
Celebration: Vice President Dan Quayle will attend the enthronement Nov. 12 of Emperor Akihito, foreign ministry officials said Tuesday in Tokyo. Akihito, 56, became emperor in January, 1989, upon the death of his father, Emperor Hirohito. Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari and Philippines President Corazon Aquino are also expected to attend.
