WORLD : 11 People Dragged From Homes and Massacred in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR — Gunmen dragged 11 members of two peasant families from their homes and killed them in the northeastern province of Morazan, radio reports said today.
The radio stations said the men used rifle fire and machetes to kill members of the Argueta and Ramos families in Sosoman, 105 miles northwest of San Salvador. At least four children were among those killed Thursday.
“We know there was a massacre, but do not have details,” said a spokesman for the Armed Forces Press Committee.
Morazan province is hotly contested between government forces and guerrillas of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front. A 10-year-old civil war has killed about 72,000 people, most of them civilians.
