Quarry’s Neighbors Have No Gripe

Once the veneer is peeled away, the crux of the story “Quarry Operating Without a Permit” (June 18) was not about the permit but rather about someone’s taking residence in an area and subsequently trying to put an already existing company, Blue Star Ready Mix, out of business because he does not like the traffic. The fact that Blue Star had been there years sooner seemed to be of little consequence.
If this neighbor buys property at Manchester and Sepulveda, would LAX have to go? Would the purchase of a new condo at the bottom of the Conejo Grade mean that the Ventura Freeway would have to shut down? Would buying a house near Dodger Stadium be sufficient cause to run the bums back to Brooklyn? Would a lot in Sausalito mean the end of the Golden Gate Bridge?
If living by a quarry which has been in business since 1976 is so obnoxious, why did this neighbor buy property next to it in 1981 and move onto it in 1987 as stated in the article?
I would think that if someone did not want to live near existing surroundings such as these, they would not buy there in the first place.
