NAMES IN THE NEWS : Garbo Street Campaign Falters

STOCKHOLM — The campaign to name a street for the late Greta Garbo in her old Stockholm neighborhood has hit a dead end. The city’s housing board said it just would not be right to name a street for someone who was so protective of her privacy.
The board also said it would be too much trouble for residents of Blekingegatan Street in the inner-city Sodermalm neighborhood to change the name. But Councilor Per Sundgren, who started the drive for Garbo Street, said he won’t give up.
“It is only natural we should honor Garbo, a simple girl who made it to stardom in Hollywood,” he said.
