‘Stone-Washing’ Botched, Suit Says: California Infanteen Togs filed a breach-of-contract suit against CAL-FIA, alleging that the commercial launderer botched a “stone-washing” job of 22,800 denim garments intended for Kids R Us stores. The Los Angeles Superior Court suit maintained that CAL-FIA of City of Industry agreed on April 18 to stone-wash the shirts, vests and pants for $165,000 plus a sales commission of $9,902. The garments’ color and quality “were substantially different” from what was promised, said the suit, which seeks $149,119. CAL-FIA said the clothing maker initially accepted the job, then changed its mind. It said it plans to countersue for the $11,500 owed for the job. (Filed Aug. 8, 1990. Case No. BC007716.)
