Home Depot Inc.: The Atlanta-based operator of warehouse-style home products stores reported that second-quarter profit leaped 53% to $47.2 million, compared to the same period last year. Sales were up 41% to a record $990.3 million. The company said continuing strong demand for home-improvement products and the opening of new stores--including those in Thousand Oaks and Santa Ana--boosted results.
