El Monte : Home Improvement Grants
The City Council increased limits on residential rehabilitation grants from $2,000 to $3,000, with some exceptions to be as high as $5,000.
The grants are used to improve single-family homes and mobile homes, often owned by elderly, disabled or handicapped residents. The program is funded by Community Development Block Grant money.
Planning Director Harold Johanson noted in a memorandum that neighboring cities have higher limits: In Arcadia, the limit is $7,000; in Covina, $6,000, and in San Dimas, $5,000.
The council authorized the program administrator to grant case-by-case extensions of up to $5,000.
