Designated hitter Orestes Kindelan started a six-run eighth inning with a solo home run, and Cuba went on to defeat Nicaragua, 11-5, for the world baseball championship at Edmonton, Canada.
The home run, Kindelan’s third in two games, broke a 5-5 tie. The Cubans won the best-of-three series, 2-0, for their 20th world title since 1938.
