Arthur C. Whiting, 86, who, with his brothers, operated a chain of 40 service stations and motels along old U.S. Route 66. In 1923, they started what became Whiting Brothers Oil. Arthur Whiting later became president. He also developed a lumber business and in 1952 became president of Kaibab Lumber Co., now Kaibab Industries. Whiting was mayor of his native Holbrook, Ariz., from 1954 to 1960. In Phoenix on Aug. 12.
