A 23-year-old man was arrested after police say he ran a stop sign and rammed a van, ejecting and critically injuring the van’s driver.
Sommay Kongmalay, who police say is a Laotian immigrant, was held on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-run driving, San Diego Police Sgt. Chuck Peck said.
Peck said Kongmalay was driving his pickup truck south on Valencia Parkway in Southeast San Diego when he ran the stop sign at Skyline Drive about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
The van’s driver, Marapaz Goodman, 45, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in critical condition suffering from multiple fractures and possible internal injuries, Peck said. Also riding in the van was the woman’s 2-year-old granddaughter, who was in good condition despite lacerations to her forehead.
