Semiconductor Firm May Be Sold: San Jose-based Spectra Diode Labs, a joint venture of Xerox and Ciba-Geigy that claims to be the premier supplier of advanced high power semiconductor laser devices and related systems, said it engaged Salomon Bros. to evaluate future business strategies, including a possible sale of the business. Spectra Diode Labs was formed in 1983 to exploit gallium arsenide-based, solid-state laser technology developed at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center.
