Thanks to the connections of university marketing and promotions director Sam Lagana, Cal State Northridge will play host to an international volleyball match for the first time.
“The Volley in the Valley” pits the United States men’s team against Japan on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams will be coming off the Federation Internationale de Volleyball World Championships in Rio de Janeiro.
Bob Samuelson, who played for CSUN through 1989, and middle blocker Craig Buck, a two-time Olympic gold medalist from Taft High, are among the U. S. team members.
Admission is $5 and tickets are available in advance beginning Thursday at the university ticket office.
Lagana was involved in CSUN’s staging of the Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. tournament last spring. The success of the event and the Matadors’ volleyball program contributed to CSUN’s selection as host.
