COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Pacific Ends UCI Water Polo Streak

The University of the Pacific water polo team defeated UC Irvine for the first time Sunday, 12-10, in a Big West Conference game in Stockton.
Entering the game, the Anteaters had a 29-game winning streak against Pacific, dating to the teams’ first meeting in 1966.
Pacific, the eighth-ranked team in the nation, took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Seventh-ranked Irvine (8-7 overall, 1-1 in the conference) tied the score twice, but never led. Pablo Yrizar and Steve Gill each scored three goals to lead the Anteaters.
Doug Sutherland scored four goals for Pacific (10-8, 1-2).
In the New Mexico State golf tournament:
Joey Sugar and William Yanagisawa tied for 15th place with two others and UC Irvine finished seventh overall with a total of 894, 25 shots behind New Mexico State’s first team. Sugar and Yanagisawa each finished the three-round tournament at five-over-par 221.
In Big West Conference men’s soccer:
San Jose State 2, UC Irvine 1--Irvine’s Mike Roach scored nine minutes into the second half to tie the score at 1-1, but Anthony Hare scored about six minutes later for San Jose State (3-8, 1-2) at Irvine. Irvine is 4-9-1 and 0-3.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC San Diego 1, UC Irvine 0--Karin Lindsay scored almost 17 minutes into the first half to lead visiting San Diego (8-1-1). Irvine is 5-7-1.
