Mobil’s Executive Officer Testifies: Allen E. Murray, testifying in a wrongful firing suit, said he knew nothing about an employee who said he was fired for not going along with an alleged cover-up of environmental problems at a company division. U.S. District Judge Harold Ackerman had ordered Murray to testify in the case of Valcar Bowman, the No. 2 environmental officer at Mobil Chemical Co. Bowman contends he was fired in 1986 because he blew the whistle on a cover-up at a plant in Bakersfield. Mobil says it fired Bowman as part of a cost-cutting campaign. The firm later added that Bowman was fired for insubordination and disobedience.
