Burbank Man Killed After Car Hits Tree

A Burbank man was killed Monday morning when his speeding car veered off Hollywood Way and struck a tree, police said.
Richard Dale Piwonka, 35, died about 2 a.m. in the one-car accident near Verdugo Avenue, Detective Bob Elias said.
Piwonka was driving northbound on Hollywood Way at 60 to 70 m.p.h. when he lost control of the car for an unknown reason, crossed two traffic lanes and struck a tree, Elias said. The accident was under investigation.
