The Bowers Museum’s Board of Governors is hosting a “Celebration of the Beginning of Construction” tonight, a private event for community leaders and museum supporters to precede the closing of the museum for a two-year period while it is expanded and renovated. The new design, by Bissell Architects of Newport Beach, provides for 48,000 square feet of new construction and 12,000 square feet of renovation, including additional gallery space, a new museum shop and restaurant, a multipurpose room, office space, a renovated entrance and sculpture courtyards.
