A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death and a teen-ager was injured during an apparent drug transaction that went bad at Bonita Cove in Mission Beach, police said.
Joseph Carlstrom of San Diego was pronounced dead at Scripps Memorial Hospital-La Jolla shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Dan Berglund of the homicide division. Carlstrom, suffering from multiple stab wounds, had first been taken by private vehicle to Mission Bay Hospital before being transferred by ambulance to Scripps, Berglund said.
Steven Smith, 19, was in fair condition Monday at Scripps Memorial after receiving at least one stab wound, a hospital spokesman said.
Carlstrom and Smith were part of a group of people drinking in the parking lot of Bonita Cove, in the 1000 block of West Mission Bay Drive, Saturday night, Berglund said. Apparently a fight over drugs broke out between Carlstrom’s group and a second group of beach-goers, he said.
