Four players filed for baseball free agency, raising the total to a record 93, but outfielder Rick Leach decided not to file and agreed to re-sign with the San Francisco Giants for one year at $375,000.
Outfielder Ken Griffey Sr. of the Seattle Mariners filed, as did outfielder Brian Downing and pitcher Greg Minton of the Angels and catcher Terry Kennedy of the Giants.
Four players still are eligible to file by Sunday’s deadline: Oakland Athletic pitcher Scott Sanderson, Dodger outfielder-infielder Mickey Hatcher, San Diego Padre third baseman Mike Pagliarulo and Giant pitcher Mark Thurmond.
