Robert H. Alway; Ex-Dean of Stanford Medical School

Robert H. Alway, 77, a nationally known pediatrician and former dean of the Stanford School of Medicine. He took over the medical school in 1957 and helped move it from San Francisco to a new medical center on the Stanford campus in Palo Alto. He was also credited with creating a department of genetics, attracting top professors to the medical school faculty and improving the school’s finances. He resigned as dean in 1964 to become chief of staff of Stanford University Hospital, retiring in 1977. In Oak Harbor, Wash. on Nov. 2 of heart disease.
