Mercury General Corp.: The Los Angeles-based insurance company said third-quarter income totaled $12.4 million, more than six times the profit recorded in the period a year ago. Revenue declined slightly to $120.3 million. Year-ago results included a $17.7-million provision for potential rate refunds under Proposition 103, the state insurance reform initiative approved in 1988.
