ATLANTA — BellSouth Corp. said today it will offer early retirement to as many as 3,000 managers in an effort to streamline its operations.
The special early retirement option for eligible managers begins Dec. 1, said Roy Howard, BellSouth senior vice president of human resources.
“To respond to the increasingly competitive telecommunications marketplace, we must continually introduce structural and operating efficiencies,” Howard said.
Management employees working for BellSouth’s regulated and unregulated companies will be offered the early retirement, which will include a special one-time payment to managers who agree to leave within a designated time frame at the company’s discretion.
