Bomb Damages Liquor Store, Car

A powerful homemade bomb exploded outside a Van Nuys liquor store late Sunday night, hurling shrapnel that shattered windows and severely damaged a parked car, Los Angeles police said.
The bomb had been placed on top of a pay telephone outside Adam’s Liquor, located in a mini-mall at 14556 Vanowen Street, and blew up about 11:30 p.m., said Detective Don Tabak of the department’s criminal conspiracy unit.
The blast blew out almost all the windows of the liquor store, a restaurant and a video store, Tabak said. The damaged car was parked in the mini-mall parking lot.
The stores were closed when the blast occurred and there were no injuries. A clerk at Adam’s Liquor said the inside of the store was not damaged and that all the businesses in the mini-mall were open Monday.
Police had no motive or suspects in the bombing.
