Thomas Williams; Award-Winning Novelist

Thomas Williams, 63, an award-winning novelist whose 1974 novel, “The Hair of Harold Roux,” won the National Book Award for fiction. Williams published eight novels, a book of short stories and numerous pieces in literary and popular magazines beginning in the mid-1950s. Williams had taught English at the University of New Hampshire since 1958. In 1960, his “Town Burning” was nominated for the National Book Award, and in 1987 “The Moon Pinnace” was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. On Oct. 23 in Dover, N.H., of lung cancer.
