ROUNDUP : Mertes Leads Pierce to Volleyball Victory

Lori Mertes had 10 kills, eight blocks and three aces to pace Pierce College to a 15-8, 15-13, 15-13 victory over Santa Barbara City in a women’s Western State Conference volleyball match Tuesday at Pierce.

Pierce (16-1 overall, 15-1 in conference play) will play for the conference title Friday at Cuesta.

Ventura d. Moorpark, 15-10, 15-10, 8-15, 15-10--Nikki Ferreria had 12 kills for host Moorpark (6-10 in conference play). Christa Grenat and Danielle Larson each added 10 kills for Moorpark. GIRLS’ TENNIS

Kennedy 6, Chatsworth 1--Kennedy (15-5, 5-5) swept all four singles matches in a West Valley League match. Chatsworth fell to 10-4, 6-4. GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Santa Barbara d. Newbury Park, 15-12, 15-8, 15-12--Shane Donnellon had 14 kills to lead host Santa Barbara (15-5) in a Southern Section 5-A Division wild-card match. Newbury Park finished 11-4.
