MEXICO CITY — Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson should have the last word on whether new title-holder Evander Holyfield should make the first defense of his crown against George Foreman, the World Boxing Council said today.
Tyson is rated the No. 1 challenger, but Holyfield has agreed to a fight against veteran heavyweight George Foreman.
“The WBC would prefer the challenger to be Tyson because he lost the championship in a very controversial fight, but we will leave the decision up to him,” WBC spokesman Eduardo Lamazon said.
