CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — A Titan 4 rocket, the nation’s most powerful unmanned launcher, blasted into space from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station with a secret military cargo Monday after a delay of nearly two months caused by unspecified technical problems.
The Air Force would not divulge the nature of the payload, but civilian experts said they believed the rocket was carrying a $180-million satellite that could be used to instantly detect the launching of any Iraqi missiles against sites in the Middle East.
