Sleazy Characters on the Silver Screen

I thank God for Jack Mathews (“Are We Supposed to Like These People?,” Nov. 4). I was beginning to think that I was the only person with such a negative reaction to “GoodFellas” and the spate of sociopathic losers populating our movie screens.

It is difficult enough to survive in a metropolitan area without having the type of people you fear the most glorified on a movie screen under the title “GoodFellas.” Who, then, are the BadFellas? And can an impressionable young gang member tell the difference? Because, make no mistake, the out-of-control gangs roaming the streets today are the GoodFellas of the ‘90s.
