Ray Segal Shapiro; Community Volunteer

A memorial service is planned Nov. 25 for Ray Segal Shapiro, community volunteer and wife of Rabbi Joshua Shapiro.
Mrs. Shapiro died Oct. 20 at a Tarzana hospital of complications of heart and lung disease, said her husband. She was 87.
Born May 14, 1903, in Romania, she came to the United States in 1921.
She and her first husband, the late Morris Segal, owned liquor stores in Long Beach and Studio City.
She moved into the Jewish Home for the Aging in Reseda in the late 1960s and in 1976 married Shapiro, who was the home’s rabbi for 21 years.
Mrs. Shapiro was active in many organizations, including Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America; Workmen’s Circle; American ORT Federation; United Jewish Appeal, and the United Way.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Carol Segal of Los Angeles; sister Blanche Mason of New York City; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 25 at the Jewish Home for the Aging, 18855 Victory Blvd., Reseda.
