Customers at Bank in Beverly Hills Hold Robbery Suspect for Police

A robber who jumped over the counter at a Beverly Hills bank and took about $3,000 was caught Saturday by customers who held him until police arrived.
Beverly Hills Police Sgt. Richard Westfall said the suspect, James Cunningham, 36, entered the Security Pacific Bank branch in the 400 block of North Beverly Drive at 10:45 a.m. and gave a note to a teller. Cunningham jumped over the counter and grabbed cash from the teller’s drawer, Westfall said.
Cunningham tried to flee the bank, but three customers followed and caught him just outside the bank, Westfall said. Police arrived moments later and took Cunningham into custody and recovered the money.
Cunningham, a transient, was booked on suspicion of robbery at Los Angeles County Jail. He was also wanted for a parole violation, Westfall said.
Security Pacific officials declined comment.
