Belmont 17, Sylmar 15--The Spartans, seeded second in the City 3-A Division, were upset in the quarterfinal game at Sylmar.
Trailing, 17-7, early in the fourth quarter, Sylmar (10-1) faked a punt on fourth and seven at its 44-yard line. Ramon Lopez took the snap and broke one tackle before racing 44 yards to the Belmont 12.
Tobaise Brookins scored on a one-yard run for his second touchdown of the game. Quarterback Daniel Terry ran for the two-point conversion, cutting Belmont’s lead to 17-15 with 4:43 left to play.
Belmont improved to 10-1.
