A BIG DEAL: The Angels made the first splash of the winter baseball meetings with a six-player trade (C1) with the Toronto Blue Jays. They sent center fielder Devon White, above, pitcher Willie Fraser and a minor leaguer to be named later to Toronto for outfielder Junior Felix, infielder Luis Sojo and a minor leaguer to be named later. The two clubs had been talking since the World Series, but the deal was completed late Sunday.

Helene Elliott

Helene Elliott was with the Los Angeles Times’ Sports department from 1989 to 2024, first as a staff writer and then, starting in 2006, as a columnist.
