Child World Posts Loss, May Sell: Child World Inc., the nation’s second-largest toy supermarket chain, said it may put itself up for sale after reporting a substantial third-quarter loss. The company, whose profit margin is being eroded by intense price competition, said it lost $14.4 million in the period. The Avon, Mass. firm lost $4.1 million in the 1989 period. Third-quarter sales rose 18% to $185.6 million. Child World also said it will suspend principal payments to its lenders through Jan. 15 to conserve cash.
