SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL FINALS : Paramount Streak on the Line Against Capistrano Valley
- Share via
At first glance, Saturday night’s Southern Section Division II football title game looks more like a mismatch than a matchup.
Paramount (13-0) comes into the game with the section’s longest winning streak at 21 games. The Pirates are also going for their third consecutive championship.
Capistrano Valley (11-2), meanwhile, finished third in the South Coast League this season behind Mission Viejo and El Toro.
But the 7:30 p.m. showdown at Santa Ana Stadium could be the best of a long weekend.
Paramount lost most of its top players from last season to graduation, but Coach Ken Sutch overcame that, proving that he reloads rathers than rebuilds.
Running back Leon Neal has been the key offensive player in playoff victories over Rio Mesa, Pasadena Muir and El Toro.
Capistrano Valley rebounded from its slow start in league play, defeating Mission Viejo, 26-24, in the playoff semifinals.
The Cougars’ leaders are quarterback Tony Solliday and receiver Dave Poltl.
