Starvation in Africa
As The Times has recently touched upon, 30 million human beings, each one a brother or sister in spirit to us all, may starve to death in the Horn of Africa in the coming months. The only thing that can prevent this from happening is a concerted diplomatic, humanitarian and possibly even military effort by the international community, of which we are now unquestionably the leader once again.
Can we mount a multibillion dollar, multimillion man-hour effort to thwart military aggression, yet stand idly while as many as 30 million men, women and children become hollow shells, wither and die from hunger in a place not very far away? And if we can do this, what have we become as a people? If we can’t, we better get moving--time is running out.
