COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Bounces Back, Tips McNeese State

Chapman College, a Division II team, defeated Division I McNeese State, 65-64, in men’s basketball Saturday in Lake Charles, La.
Chapman--which was routed by LSU, 101-68, Friday night--shot 66.7% to 35% for McNeese State.
Roger Middleton led Chapman with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Andre Hill and Bobby Straface each added 12 points.
Larone Ford, starting his first game for McNeese, led the Cowboys with 20 points.
In the closing seconds, McNeese, made two consecutive baskets to close to within 65-64, but a last-second shot by the Cowboys failed to go in.
McNeese held a 44-41 lead in the second half before Chapman went on a run to go up, 56-49.
In the Christ College Irvine men’s basketball tournament:
Christ College Irvine 105, Dominican College 56--Jamie McShan scored 22 points, Corey Smith 18, Ian Donnelly 16 and Keith Rogers 12 to lead Christ College Irvine (2-7). CCI finished second in the tournament behind Redlands. Dominican finished third.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
UC Irvine 76, Cal State Northridge 57--Irvine doubled its victory total of last season in the Bren Center.
Irvine, 1-27 in 1989-90, is 2-3.
“Just what the doctor ordered,” Coach Dean Andrea said. “We’ve got to start feeling good about ourselves.”
Yvonne Catala led Irvine with 22 points, and Kathy Lizarraga had 16, 14 in the first half.
Northridge, led by Bridgette Ealy’s 16 points, fell to 3-5.
Christ College Irvine 80, Occidental 77--Genevieve Graff scored 19 points, and Stacy Kirch had 17 to lead host Christ College Irvine (5-1).
