Dorsey High Wins County Mock Trial Championship

Dorsey High School in Baldwin Hills has won the Los Angeles County Mock Trial championships, snatching the crown from Louisville High School in Woodland Hills.
Students presented trial arguments in a drunk driving felony manslaughter case. The young “lawyers” had to argue the constitutionality of the arrest and of sobriety checkpoints.
Dorsey will now advance to the state competition, set for April in Sacramento. The mock trial is sponsored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation, a nonprofit organization that educates the public on legal issues.
More than 40 high schools took part in this year’s competition, which was held at Los Angeles Superior Courthouse, with Judge Judith Chirlin presiding and a panel of three attorneys scoring the teams.
