Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer received another individual honor, Philadelphia’s Maxwell Award as the outstanding college football player of the year.
The Brigham Young quarterback, a junior, easily out-polled another junior, Raghib (Rocket) Ismail of Notre Dame, 1,993 points to 1,385 in balloting by coaches, reporters and Maxwell Football Club members. Colorado’s Eric Bieniemy had 747 points and Virginia’s Shawn Moore 431.
