An East County man was killed when his heavy-equipment truck ran into a power pole Friday in Vista.
Carl Comb, 69, of Harbison Canyon was dead when sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, Sgt. Roy Stamper of the Sheriff’s Department said.
About 5,000 homes in the San Marcos area lost power as a result of the 1:45 p.m. accident, said Fred Vaughn of San Diego Gas & Electric. Power was restored later that afternoon.
Sheriff’s Department officials said the power pole had toppled over, crushing the truck’s cab. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
