House of Fabrics Makes Bid: The Los Angeles-based retailer of fabrics, notions, crafts and sewing machines said it offered $13.50 in cash or common stock to buy Fabricland of Portland, Ore. House of Fabrics said the offer is contingent on working out a definitive agreement and the approval of both firms’ boards and shareholders, and that of regulatory authorities. House of Fabrics operates 629 stores in 43 states; Fabricland has 80 stores in six Western states selling similar merchandise.
