Long Beach : Transit System Offers Free Bus Rides on New Year’s Eve
- Share via
To discourage drunken driving on one of the most celebratory nights of the year, Long Beach Transit will offer free bus rides on New Year’s Eve, transit officials said.
This is the sixth consecutive year that the transit system has waived fees--now 60 cents--to discourage revelers from drinking and driving, spokeswoman Rhea Mealey said. “It’s our offer of good will to keep the streets a little safer,” she said.
Fares will be waived between 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 2 a.m. Jan. 1 along all regularly scheduled routes.
Regular weekday bus schedules will be followed on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, with limited holiday service on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, officials said. For information about scheduling, riders may call 591-2301.
