THE GULF WAR: The Home Front : Patriotism: Showing the Flag--Properly
- Share via
The American Legion has issued instructions on what it called “proper flag etiquette.” Among the reminders:
* When displaying the flag, the blue field is kept to the top and to the left of the observer, whether the flag is displayed vertically or horizontally.
* In wartime, the flag should not be displayed illuminated at night.
* It is acceptable to fly the flag in inclement weather if you use an all-weather flag of colorfast synthetics.
* The legion’s publication “Let’s Be Right On Flag Etiquette” is available by writing to American Legion, 700 N. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46204.
