Occupied Areas Get New Chief

TEL AVIV — Palestinians got a new occupation chief Friday.
In a private ceremony, Maj. Gen. Danny Rothschild, head of military intelligence research, was installed as head of the military government in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, where 1.7 million Palestinians live.
His predecessor, Shmuel Goren, held the job for seven years and was criticized by Israeli leftists for failing to foresee the pressures that ignited the 3-year-old uprising.
Rothschild is expected to be more flexible.
