Short Takes : Nureyev Tour: Not a ‘Farewell’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev says fans should pay no attention to the fact that his current tour is billed as “Nureyev & Friends: The Farewell Tour.”
“This is not a farewell tour,” he said in an interview published Sunday in The Tennessean. “It was not my idea to call it that. There are so many requests for engagements to dance still coming in that I see no point in stopping.”
Nureyev defected from the Soviet Union in 1961 and has danced with more than 30 of the world’s major dance companies since then. He also has choreographed more than 25 productions. But he doesn’t expect to stop any time soon.
“I feel good and it keeps me healthy, so I don’t know when I’ll stop. If work comes along you do it, and you just don’t take a vacation.”
