World IN BRIEF : CZECHOSLOVAKIA : Gorbachev Calls for Warsaw Pact Talks

Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev wants to convene a high-level conference on scrapping the military function of the Warsaw Pact by April, the Czechoslovak news agency CTK reported. It said President Vaclav Havel accepted a letter proposing the meeting. Czechoslovakia and Hungary have advocated ending the pact’s military function by June and abolishing the alliance next year.
