Concert a Nuisance

I must reply to Jim Washburn’s pop music review of Bazooka on the front page of Calendar (“Concert Under the Stars,” Feb. 4).

This concert took place outside on big, busy 17th Street in Costa Mesa, a street backed on both sides by residences whose occupants were unwillingly forced to listen to this so-called music.

By the time it reached me through my closed windows, it became simply loud noise. This has nothing to do with the First Amendment. How about the Golden Rule, invasion of privacy, and disturbing the peace?

Washburn complains about the police stopping this cacophony. I would have complained had they not. There is a time and a place for everything. Saturday night may be the time, but outside on a busy city street is definitely not the place. I certainly hope the Costa Mesa City Council never grants a license for concerts in such places.
