Saddam Hussein’s promise to wage “the mother of all battles” has inspired witticisms in the wake of the Iraqi rout:
“Saddam Hussein promised that he would conduct the mother of all battles. Obviously, it looks like what’s happened is the mother of all battles has turned into the MOTHER OF ALL RETREATS,” said Defense Secretary Dick Cheney.
Wednesday’s detailed military briefing by Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf on the success of the allied rapid advance was being described as “THE MOTHER OF ALL BRIEFINGS.”
